Advertise on binaryday for free

without comments

I have just started to use performancingads on binaryday. Since I am just starting to figure out how this thing works, I have set the price at 0.5$ per week. That translates to less than 0.1$ eCPM.

Why 0.5$ per week

That is the minimum allowed by the system :) The idea is not to make money but to figure out how this entire thing works.

0.5$ per week is not free

OK. I will refund you the money if you let me know before buying the ad space and then let me know your experience in advertising on my site.

This is valid for only 1 week from today

Blog posts that got me the maximum traffic

without comments

While I spend a considerable amount of time writing supposedly cerebal content, google-analytics shows that the blog posts that got me the traffic and hence the $$s were the ones that I had written in less than 15 minutes each. The data has got me completely confused. Should I continue to write about the rather complicated Difference Between Intel core 2 duo vs Intel dual core vs Intel Pentium D or should I write rather easier to understand and hence easier to write posts like Download Adobe flash player 10. I will appreciate if you can leave a comments with your view as I am comletely confused.

So the blog posts that broght in the traffic in January 2009 are

  1. Invisible Scanner: Find yahoo users who are invisible
  2. Find lost mobile with mobile tracer
  3. romantic hindi songs
  4. Free online youtube converter
  5. Ron Pratte Car Collection | who is Ron Pratte
  6. Nokia N85 Review
  7. Cool T-shirt Quotes
  8. Nokia N96 vs iPhone

Shahrukh Khan on twitter?

without comments

You read that right. Shahrukh khan or the king khan is the latest to join the long list of celebrities who are blogging. Sharukh as usual has gone one step ahead from the others by directly moving to the microblogging platform of twitter.

I am not sure how active he will be but going by his female fan following, the gender ratio of twitter users in India is going to undergo a significant change for sure. Be ready for the invasion of twitter by gals. :)

Download Adobe flash player 10

without comments

Just realized that Adobe flash player 10 has a lot more functionality compared to the earlier version of flash player 9.

Download adobe flash player 10

Adobe Flash Player 10 is the latest flash player available. While I had no complaints with the earlier version i.e Adobe Flash Player 9, if you are going to install it, you should go for the latest version. Here is the The download link for Adobe flash player 10.

Things to look out for while downloading adobe flashplayer

You might have to first install the adobe flash player installer before being able to download the adobe flash player. Look for the warning message about activeX control at the top of your browser. Right click and the installation of the installer.

New features in adobe flash player 10

  1. 3D Effects
  2. Custom Filters and Effects
  3. Advanced Text Layout
  4. Enhanced Drawing API
  5. Visual Performance Improvements
  6. Enhanced Sound APIs

More details about adobe flashplayer 10 is available here

Some of my earlier posts in technology section

  1. Everything you may need to know about how to fix errors in USB Flash drives and how to Format USB Flash
  2. How to remove virus from usb drive?
  3. Difference Between Intel core 2 duo vs Intel dual core vs Intel Pentium D

Mr Goliath, every action has a ten times large reaction

without comments

Yes, that is the first law of internet today. I thought all of us know that pretty well. The recent episode of NDTV vs Chyetanya Kunte just goes on to prove how badly Indian mainstream media does not get it.

Background
On 26th of November, Mr Chyetanya  Kunte did not like the way Barkha Dutt of NDTV was covering the mumbai terrorist attack.  Angry and furious he wrote his views about lack of professionalism in Barkha Dutt’s reporting of the event and it could have endangered the lives of the hostages. This post is not about the merits of that post. This post is about what NDTV seems to have done since then and a simple lesson that all big companies will do well to learn.

Chyetanya  Kunte retracts his post and issues a public apology
This is when things became tense again as it was obvious from Kunte’s apology post that he was posting it under some sort of legal threat. I personally think the company should have just asked him to remove the offending post and then left it there. Unfortunately they seem to have asked him to post the apology letter and make it clear to everyone who is calling the shots.

A lone blogger is not a lone blogger. Not anymore

Their reasoning is simple. If we can send a 35 page legal notice to a poor lone blogger what can he do. Poor felow will have no option but to take down the article and publish a public apology for saying that XYZA is not God.

Their reasoning is right. Only that it does not reckon with the power of google cache, twitter and the connectedness of the blogosphere. What they forgot to forsee is that the removal of the post will do more harm to the reputation of NDTV and Barkha Datt than when it was posted. Many popular bloggers have already written about it here, here, here and here.

The Long-tail is yet to strike
The long tail of Indian blogosphere are just getting aware of this episode. Wait till the 6000 strong indiblogger community starts to write about it. It will be funny to see how many legal notices NDTV can serve.

Stop boring your feedburner subscribers with static email subject lines : Make feedburner subject line dynamic

without comments

You write well thought out attention grabbing titles for your post. Unfortunately many of your email subscribers never get to see that title because it is inside an email with a boring subject line that gets repeated everyday. That pretty much sums up my frustration with feedburner emails.

Here is a simple wordpress hack that will make the subject lines of my feedburner mails dynamic. It sets the title of the latest post on your blog as the title of the feedburner email.

You need to edit 3 files in the wordpress source file for this to work

  1. feed.php
  2. feed-rss.php and
  3. feed-rss2.php

All 3 files are present in the wp-admin folder of your wordpress installation. These files are responsible for generating your rss feed. Please take a back-up of the files before proceeding with the below hack.

Edit feed.php
Locate the function get_wp_title_rss.  Replace the existing code of the function with the following

function get_wp_title_rss() {
global $post;
$myposts = get_posts(‘numberposts=1&offset=0′);
foreach($myposts as $post) :
$title = the_title();
endforeach;
 return $title;
}

Edit feed-rss.php and feed-rss2.php

Look for the line  <title> ………………………</title>  and convert it to <title><?php  wp_title_rss(); echo ” from “; bloginfo_rss(‘name’); ?></title>

That’s it. The subject line of your next feedburner email shall be title of your last post from your blogname.

Happy Saraswati Puja or Vasanta Panchami

without comments

It is Vasanta Panchami today

Many of you might be knowing it as Saraswati Puja. The day has a lot of emotional significance for me. Especially because Saraswati Puja was one occassion on which I did not have to study at all!!! What fun it used to be. Here I am slogging it out at 12 in the night, hoping that vasanta panchami 2009 will bring good luck to me and Binaryday alike.

I have lost my book of saraswati mantra or saraswati vandana. Let me know if anyone knows an online source for the same.
