I had written a Nokia N78 Review yesterday only. It was expected to be available for sale in the second quarter of the year. It is already available in Finland. You can see the details here and here.
It is selling for Euro 367 before tax. That is equivalent to 25,000 rupees.

The new Nokia N78 handset is loaded with Wi-Fi connectivity, FM music transmitter and Bluetooth support. The model has integrated GPS with free Nokia maps for geo-tagging of your photos taken by its 3.2-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics. Unlike the previous N73, the N78 gets rid of real keys in favor of touch surfaces. It has HSPDA 3G support, however that may not be very useful in India.
The Nokia N78 weighs only 101.8 g. It has 70 MB internal memory and 96 MB SDRAM memory. It does not have a infr-red port though. Its Li-Ion battery shall run for 320 hours in stand-by mode. It offers upto 4 hour nand 20 minutes of talktime in a single recharge.
It is expected to be released in the second quarter of 2008.

The days are gone when Macs meant only MacOS. Today’s Macs use the Intel architecture rather than the old PowerPC architecture. Coming to Windows, you can easily install it on your MacBook using the bootcamp software provided by Apple itself.
But if you are one of those types who hates Windows and don’t like MacOS(A test of your geekiness!!!) but ofcourse you like the Hardware of Mac then ….You don’t have to worry. You can easily install Linux on your Mac. Moreover you will be surprised to know that all the hardware in the MacBook are compatible with Linux…including the accelerometer.

I am at home for past few days. For past 4 years I always thought that day by day computers are making our lives all the more easy. With all the cool new services and softwares coming up it seems as if computers will eliminate all our problems. But what we do not think is that computers themselves are becoming too complex to use.
A close analogy that I can think of is an aeroplane’s cockpit and a car’s cockpit. Sure, Aeroplanes are much more than cars but ever looked at its controls????
In 90s MS did a great job by launching Windows which actually made the computers easy to use in those days.
Can MS Surface change the things? I think it can … if only MS stops fighting with Google and gets to do what it is best at…
BTW ask your parents or grandparents about this post …

It came as a shock and a big relief too… MS Office to support ODF.
Relief because I am a Linux fan to the extent that I won’t even use MS office for my document work so the news gives me so much of relief.
Shocked because I really can’t figure out what Mr. Ballmer wants. So much of weired stuff since Mr. Ballmer became the CEO…First the Yahoo stuff, then the cashback on search and now this…and yes, did you hear of Mr. Ballmer being egged?
I really can’t get whether all this is just some kind of publicity stunts or Mr. Ballmer really wants to make Microsoft something new…
Mr. Ballmer please don’t break my trust in MS ….

I was going through google analytics pages of my sites. Google sent significantly higher number of visiotrs to my sites compared to yahoo. However when I looked at 2 important statistics pageviews/visit and bounce rate, Yahoo was better than google on all most all sites. For binaryday yahoo had a pageviews/visit=1.38 as compared to 1.24 pageviews/visit for google. Yahoo had a bouncerate of 77.63%. Much better than the 84.36% boucerate for google. It will be really interesting to know what other bloggers are experiencing.

Microsoft today announced a programme called Live Search cashback. As part of the offer, microsoft will provide a rebate to the searcher buying the product through microsoft live platform.
It reminds me of the heady days of web 1.0 while websites paid users for watching advertisements, products were heavily discounted and so on. All with the intention of catching the eyeballs and monetizing the same later. All of us know the end result of that.
1. Microsoft seems to have not understood the basic of search advertisement. Users go to google for its organic search results and not for the advertisements. Hardly 4-5% of the searchers ever click on the advertisements. I think it is stupid to try to attack search with advertisement.
2. There are 2 types of buyers on ebay. Some who buy the product directly on ebay and some who come to ebay through advertisements. Let us say 90% of the users come to ebay directly and 10% come from advertisements. If the cpc is 1$, then ebay needs to spend only 10$ for 100 visitors. Assuming a conversion rate of 10%, ebay will have to spend 10$ for 5 purchases.
What happens now? Even the 90% people who were coming to ebay directly, will go and conduct a search for the product on microsoft live before purchasing. So ebay will have to provide the discount to all users. Hence total cost for ebay on microsoft will be actually a lot higher than that on google.
