I use Squid and Unbound.

On a good day I get surfing speeds of 25 MB/s with Squid and 3 ms name resolution times with Unbound. I doubt any of your tips can give you these speeds.

Also, as Geet said, OpenDNS is just one of hundreds of public dns servers and the best one (i.e., that which resolves the most sites you need the fastest) depends on your location, your network, the sites you frequent, how busy it is, and so forth. Use namebench to find what’s best for the current moment. (Then run namebench again the next day.)
