Nokia N70 Music Edition Details

The Nokia N70 Music Edition is one of the few N-series mobile phones available for less than 10k in the indian market. The main attraction of the N70 Music edition is the ease of playing music on the mobile. Unlike earlier mobile phones Nokia N70 Music EDitionyou do not have to go through an arcane set of screens to be able to play the music. A dedicated music key on the Nokia N70 Music Edition, means the mobile phone gets converted into a music player at the touch of a button. Ability to create and edit multiple playlists is a great feature as well.

How to format Nokia mobile phone

Formatting is the ultimate solution to any software problem that you can not solve. Nokia seems to have recognized this great secret of microsoft’s success and has made it ultra easy to format nokia mobile phones.

Format your nokia mobile by dialling *#7370# from your handset. The device will request a security code, the default code is 12345 unless you have changed it. Formatting will delete all user data from the device memory so always make a back-up of your nokia handset before formatting it.

I have tried this with my Nokia N73. If you have used the trick for anyother handset, do let me know in the comments.

Nokia Messaging : transforming the way we connect

Nokia seems to have taken the challenge from new entrants very very seriously. While everyone was expecting nokia to play catch-up, they have just gone ahead and rewritten the rules of the game. And trust me the internet is not going to be the same after the Nokia World 2008. With the launch of the Nokia N97 and Nokia Messaging, Nokia has truely changed the way we communicate.

There is a large percentage of the world population that does not have access to a PC. However around 2/3 rd of the entire global population is expected to have an access to a mobile phone in the near future. The Nokia messaging solution intends to bring the greatest product of the internet, the email, to this vast consumer base. Nokia Messaging will give millions of consumers access to email and IM accounts from Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Messenger, Windows Live Hotmail, Gmail and Google Talk, and AOL Mail as well as email solutions from thousands of ISPs around the world on the majority of Nokia devices.

Nokia N97 mobile phone is going to kill the iphone

The nokia n97 mobile phone has arrived !!! Well actually I am stupid to call it a mobile phone. It is actually as powerful and feature rich as a computer. Since this is a touchscreen smart phone, comparisons to iphone are inevitable. Looking at the featurelist of the nokia n97, i have a feeling that the comparison will not last for long. The N97 is just damn too superior to the iphone.

The Nokia N97 supports up to 48 GB of storage, including 32 GB of on-board memory. This is complemented by  full support for the Nokia Music Store and continuous playback time of up to 1.5 days. The Nokia N97 also has a 5-Megapixel camera with high-quality Carl Zeiss optics and DVD quality video capture, and support for services like Share on Ovi. Doesn’t that read like the specification of a computer!!

The Nokia N97 seems to have acknowledged the fact that people do use their mobile phones for browsing the web. Friends, social networks and news are available by simply touching the home screen. The Nokia N97 is fully capable of streaming Flash videos or playing games. The N97 is the first N-series phone with a physical QWERTY keyboard.

Just look at the features that I have highlighted and you will have no doubt about the aptness of the title. Only if Nokia was capable of creating a hype like Apple and only if it had a CEO half as cool as jobbs. :(

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic : the first touch screen phone from Nokia

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is the first touch screen phone inroduced by Nokia in India. Nokia rules the Indian makret with more than half of all phones sold in the market. However in recent days nokia has seen a threat to its leadership from the touch screen phones introduced by new entrants like Apple and HTC.

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic mobile phone is Nokia’s attempt to fight back in the touchscreen mobiles market. Priced at close to 20k, the 5800 XpressMusic looks much more attractive than the iphone. Looks like the pathetic performance of iphone is not going to change anytime soon.

The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic has a 3.2 mega pixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens, LED flash and video capturing capability. A virtual QWERTY keyboard makes typing messages or email easier. Like IPHONE, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is 3G compatible. It is not possible to use 3G technology in India though.

The Nokia 5800 comes with standard softwares like Nokia maps, Nokia music client etc. This phone has access to OVI, the online music store from Nokia. For this onlne music store, Nokia has collaborated with leading international and national music companies; Universal Music Group, Sony BMG, EMI, Warner and Tseries, Big Music and Yashraj.

The mobile is expected to be released in India in January 2009.

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Review

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is the same phone that you know as Nokia Tube. Nokia 5800 XpressMusic has been touted as the i-pod killer. The comparison with i-pod is inevitable considering that the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic looks very similar to the i-pod.

I have not been able to personally use the handset before writing this Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Review. This review is a summary of other reviews on the net.

The Nokia 5800 has a one-finger touch screen while the iPhone can handle input from two fingers simultaneously. The 5800 has a better camera, including a Carl Zeiss lens. The Internet browser of Nokia 5800 can handle Flash files, which the iPhone can’t.

The XpressMusic is among the first devices to support Comes With Music, Nokia’s music service which offers one year of unlimited access to the entire Nokia Music Store catalogue, that includes close to 40 lakh songs.

I could not find any information about the price of Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. However I think it will be priced below Rs 20,000 and will give the iphone a good run for money.

n96 vs iphone

I happened to read my previous post on nokia n96 vs iphone. I just realised that while the comparison between n96 and iphone was quite exhustive, it was a bit too long for my choice. So here is a summary of that post.

  1. The nokia n96 does not stand a chance on coolness factor. iPhone is perhaps the only mobile that can impress your freinds.
  2. N96 has a good user interface. However good is not enough while you are competeing with steve jobs product.
  3. storage and camera are perhaps the 2 most important functionality of any mobile phone. And Nokia N96 is a clear winner on both counts. Actually the camera in iPhone is a shame.
  4. When I first thought about music, I thought iphone will be a clear winner. Was I wrong!!! Nokia n96 beats iphone on the music front as well.
  5. iPhone scores over n96 in battery life though.

Profimail – Read Emails on your Mobile

If you want to read emails on your phone ,I sugggest you to use ProfiMail, a very nice mobile email client

Profimail is a cool client which helps me to read and respond to my emails even from office.

To start using profimail, I had to just download the client on my mobile and configure it by giving required input fields like username, password, incoming mail server ,outgoing mail server
etc.

profimail1.pngProfimail is a really feature reach application. Some of the important features are listed below :

  • Automatic synchronization of messages with mail server
  • IMAP folders
  • Attachments – view, save, send
  • ability to send HTML messages with images and hyperlinks
  • Address book support
  • Support for POP3 / IMAP / SMTP mail servers
  • Multiple email accounts
  • Text viewer for standard text, HTML and Word documents
  • Optimized for GPRS – get headers first, then download message bodies which you really want to see

Well though I normally use very few of these features but it is indeed a cool client and enables me to respond to critical mails really fast

But the only catch is that it is a paid client. However if want to be able to access your mails then I think the $60 price may not be too much to pay.

In the mean time I am trying to find a free email client for my mobile. Please drop a line in the comments section, if you are aware of one.
