We have seen 2 exciting launches in India last week. Apple iPhone and Nokia N96. While Apple iPhone is priced at Rs. 31,000 for 8GB version and Rs. 36,000 for 16GB version, N96 is priced at Rs. 36,000. So for now price wise both are evenly matched. Now the big question, if I have to put up my 36K, which one will it be.
I have used the iPhone for few months (non 3G version) earlier so I have experienced its revolutionaly user interface and I can talk about its ownership …

Not by the media or bloggers for sure. The media and bloggers (including binaryday) had made the launch of iphone a grand event. I think both Airtel and Vodafone were expecting a grand response to the device. That would explain the launch at midnight.
However when it came to voting with the wallet, the Indian customers proved their value consciousness by showing a lukewarm response to the device. In many places number of journalists out-numbered the number of customers.
However if number of searches on google is anything to go by, there …

A couple of years back, the important question to ask was whether the mobile phone has a camera or not. Now a days even 5 mega pixel cameras are taken for granted. If you want the best camera available in the market then you should go for a 8 megapixel one.
The latest 8 megapixel phone to be released is the Samsung innov8 i8510. Apart from the 8 megapixel camera it comes with a surround-sound cinematic video experience, mobile Internet browsing experience and mobile gaming capabilities.
The 8 megapixel camera mobile phone from LG …

Apple iPhone goes on sale in India from today (Aug 22, 2008) onwards by Airtel (link) and Vodafone (link).
Price in INR: 8GB iPhone: 31,000 and 16GB iPhone: 36,100.
This is definitely more expensive than the ‘no commitment’ 8GB iPhone sold by AT&T in US for $599, which is roughly Rs 25,000, which is a valid amount for the product we are getting. The only problem is the hype, media created and Apple created around the world by stating it as a $199 device. $199 is AT&T price and not Apple price. …

A loss of mobile handset is a nightmare for many mobile users. You loose all your contacts, sms messages, pictures and videos.
Airtel provides a really useful solution to find lost mobile phone in the form of Lost Mobile Tracking System. The service costs you Rs30 per month. However you will need a GPRS eneabled handset and Airtel Live must be enabled on your mobile phone. After that download the software at http://airtel.in/wps/wcm/connect/Airtel.in/airtel.in/home/foryou/mobile/prepaid/services/lmts/download/ and activate the service through “Services for You” link.
The software acts in the background. Once the …

Seems like our averseness to use the word condom is a major reason for pread of HIV in India. In an attempt to make the word ‘condom’ more socially acceptable BBC World Service, has created a free ringtone for your mobile phone that chants like “condom, condom…”
The ringtone is actually quite creative and I actually like it. So go ahead and give it a try.

Shaadi.com has announced a strategic partnership with Vodafone to launch a matrimonial service. By calling or SMSing Shaadi to 57007 or even by clicking on shaadi.com link on Vodafone live! portal, you will find your prospective matches.
This clearly follows our long held belief that all utility sites like job, matrimony and classifieds will eventually migrate to mobiles.
Do let us know your experience with the same if you happen to use this service first hand.

This post on phonearena is asking its readers if they should buy the iphone. The body of the post seems to clearly suggest that iphone is not that great a buy. While I think the iphone may be a bit expensive in India, I have no doubt that the iphone is an awesome product to own.
It will be unfair to compare the iphone to other handsets along familiar features. Because the strength of iphone is not its features but the ease with which you can use the features provided and …

There has been lot of speculation about the price of iphone in India. The price of iphone 3G in US was in the range of 200$ or 8,000Rs. So we were expecting the iphone to cost anywhere between 20-25k.
However compareindia, a famos comparison shopping sitee is reporting that the 8 GB version of the iPhone 3G will cost Rs 31,000, while the 16 GB version will cost between Rs 36,000 and 37,000.
The price seems way too high. It is possible to get iphone for 14k-16k in US and use them …

Obviously..people will need access to your mobile handset to check your sms or view that video clip. And your have the handset by your side all the time.
Think again. With internet and bluetooth present on your mobile, mobile privacy seems to be the first casualty. There are softwares available on the net that allow others to read your sms, your contact list or view the video clip without access to your handset.

telecomtiger.com is reporting that microsoft has plans to introduce the internet explorer for mobiles soon.
With many of the websites designed for ie even today, I think internet explorer will have a clear advantage even on the mobile platform. Seems like we are heading for one more round of browser war. This time on the mobile platform.

The lowest price advertisement from subhiksha seems to have generated quite a lot of interest amongst users. However locating a subhiksha mobile store seems to be quite difficult especially as the website of subhiksha is under construction. Hence the best bet to locate a subhiksha store in India is to send a sms to 56161 with the text bachat (Please note the space etween bachat and pincode).
I have tried it for mumbai. If you try this method then do let me know the result in the comments.
