Samsung’s reign over smartphone exceeded most expectations in 2012. The smartphone maker dominated the Android space and gave Apple’s iPhone a run for its money in North America as well. Samsung did this largely due to their mid range and affordable smartphones such as Samsung Galaxy Y and Samsung Galaxy Ace. It seems now, Samsung will be delivering users with more for less just as they did last year with 2 models, Samsung Galaxy Young and Samsung Galaxy Fame. Samsung in its press release has announced the arrival of 2 big Smartphones in small packages with an affordable price tag. The clear intention seems to be to preemptively take out any domestic competition from Micromax, Karbonn and the lot by making a better OS experience available rather than compete along just specs.
Both, Samsung Galaxy Young and Samsung Galaxy Fame will be marquee mid range smartphones with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean running inside. Samsung hasn’t hinted about higher upgrades being available but it seems for the next few months, these 2 models will clearly be the favourites among mid range customers. As far as basic specs go, both phones don’t really try hard to impress but promise a great deal .
Samsung Galaxy Young is a petite little phone with a 3.25 “display, that may feel a little too small in front of Micromax’s Canvas HD. That being said, Samsung Galaxy Young does provide for a decent smartphone experience. The phone features a 1 GHz processor ( no dual core ) as well as 768 MB RAM . In terms of performance this should prove more than sufficient for most users. The phone sports a 3.15 MP primary camera that is capable of taking VGA quality videos as well. There is no secondary camera provided for the phone however. Samsung Galaxy Young price in India should be roughly Rs 8000 making it a replacement of sorts for the Galaxy Y. The phone offers a humble 1300 mAh battery that can deliver up to 7 hours of talk time. For the purposes of data storage, Samsung Galaxy Young offers 4 GB of internal storage space as well as micro SD card slot that can be used to expand the memory by up to 32 GB.
Samsung Galaxy Fame is a bit of a looker. The phone sports a slightly bigger 3.5″ display however with a display resolution of 320 x 480 pixels. The phone also houses a 1 GHz processor with 512 MB RAM. This is a bit surprising, considering the phone in every other aspect promises to be a better offering than Galaxy Young. The Galaxy Fame sports a 5 MP camera with auto focus and LED flash as well as Geo tagging. There is even a front camera albeit of only VGA resolution. Samsung Galaxy Fame price in India is expected to be around Rs 12000 and should take up the position Samsung Galaxy Ace held last year. Galaxy Fame also comes with 4 GB of internal storage and a micro SD card slot. The battery is also similar at
For now the phones seem to be heading to UK after their grand unveiling at the Mobile World Congress in the second half of February. The phone should be available in other international markets soon as well.
