Blogging is a marathon and not a sprint
There is no secret sauce to Blogging success
That is the most important learning that I have got over the last one and half years of blogging. As you read about pagerank, commenting, backlink building, pro-themes, adsense and thousand other topics, you may end up getting convinced that one of these things are critical to blogging success. They are important, no doubt about it. But that is not what separates the successful bloggers from not so successful ones.
Failed Bloggers have a pattern
If you listen to anyone who could not succeed in blogging, you will realize that all of them fall into one of the following patterns
- They had a friend or cousin who makes a lot of money blogging. And they thought that if that idiot can do it, why not me
- They were convinced by reading several articles that if they do proper keyword research, build links like crazy, they can make lots of money too.
- They downloaded audios, videos of many self pro-claimed dotcom-mogul who said that if they buy their 49$ ebook, they can make a lot of money.
If you fall into any of the above 3 categories then do a serious reality check.
Blogging is a marathon and not a sprint
There is a reason why the people in the above 3 categories fail often. They enter into a marathon race with the mentality of a 100m race. They sprint. They write 45 articles in a month, they comment on other blogs like crazy, exchange links. Unfortunately the initial result reinforces their idea that making money with blogging is easy. You see it is possible to get initial success with the above methods. The problem is they loose steam. Writing those 45 articles screws up their personal life. They get frustrated as that blog visitor number plateaus at 1000 visitors a day. Worse still more often than not the adsense income starts going down because google applies some not so smart pricing.
How to run the marathon?
A blog is not suitable for teaching how to blog like a marathon runner. It needs you to learn the basics and basics are best read in a sequential manner with enough time in between to allow you to assimilate the thought, to act upon them. That is why I have started an ecourse about step by step guide to blogging success. Join that course to read my experiences about building a successful blog over a period of time.
@SK, I liked your simile
Blogging is really a long term process which takes time to yield results. Also, like Marathon you need to plan your each mile and take stock of situation and adapt. It needs tremendous amount of stamina and not instant burst of energy and stop.
Great stuff.
@Ajith,
Thanks man. Btw you are one of the people responsible for convincing me that the hard way is the correct way to success.

Sita,
Everytime I post with the 8000 Credit dot org site in the Comment field, the comment goes into the SPAM folder. Could you rescue it.
Thanks
