InterNet telephony allowed in India: Call a mobile from computer in India

18 August 2008 257 views No Comment

TRAI has permitted the ISPs to provide Internet telephony which means they can terminate Internet telephony calls on PSTN (public switched telecom network) and vice-versa.

Till now it was possible to call from a computer to another computer over the internet. However it was not possible to call from a computer to a mobile and vice versa. The situation is set to change now.

This seems to be a good news for ISPs and also for mobile handset makers. However this may serious drop in profitability of telecom players in the long run.
