Uncomfortable questions about Mobile Number Portability in India

2 August 2008 241 views No Comment

A much awaited reform in the mobile connection market is going to come true. Teck.in is reporting that Mobile Number Portability is expected to be rolled out in India by mid 2009. However I think there are still some critical answers that will need to be answered before number portability becomes a reality.

1. With all numbers in the same database, security will become an issue.
2. What happens to KYC checks? Will the customer need to go through the KYC process everytime he wants to change his number?
3. What happens if a customer wants to change the service provider while he has some dues to pay to the original service provider?
4. All of us know that entry level customers like college students do not generate a lot of revenue for the service provider. However service providers give them a cheap connection with the hope of making money later. What will happen to these users??
