Buying a good second hand mobile may be the easiest way to get a really good bargain. However there are some critical points to consider to avoid any possible future problem.

Make sure that it is not a stolen handset: Insist on seeing the original documents to ensure that you are buying a genuine handset. A google search for the imei number of the handset is a good idea as well.

The age of the handset: Try to avoid very old second hand mobile phones. Also check that all parts of the mobile phone are in working condition. If you are buying an expensive handset then it makes sense to insist on getting a view from a technical person before making the payment.

Is the handset in warranty period? Be ready to pay a premium for a handset that is still in its warranty period.

Check the current market price of the mobile phone When it comes to second hand mobile phone, the price that the original buyer had paid is of no use at all. Rather check what is current market price of the handset. Do not go by the MRP of the product. Go to some mobile showroom and check out the price of the mobile phone. Calculate the saving from the second hand mobile with reference to the price you would have to pay after all the bargaining is over.

Has it been too long since the last price cut? Mobile handset markets see a drop in the price of handsets on a periodic basis. If there has been no srop in the price of the model since its launch, then factor in a 20% drop in price while comparing price of the original and that of the second hand mobile.

The recent terror attacks in Bangalore and Ahmedabad have brought back a question that I have been trying to answer for more than 10 years now. All of us accept that pakistan has been supporting terrorism in India. Government changed from Benazir bhutto to Nawaz sarif. Democracy gave way to military rule under Musharrraf. However there has been no change in their terror policy. Have you ever seen such determined effort by any nation? What explains such level of determination?

I am sure people of pakistan have their own problems to solve. Why don’t they question the unnecessary expense that goes towards terrorism in India? They love our cricketers, they love bollywood. Then why do they hate us? or Do they really hate us?

We must try and answer these questions. Because without understanding these fundamental questions, we shall never be able to solve the problem of terrorism. And we need to solve this problem before any more bomb blasts. I have not been able to answer these questions myself. However I wish that some wiser person happens to read this post and answer these questions that have been troubling me and this nation for all these years.

Section 377 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) says “Whoever voluntarily has carnal intercourse against the order of nature, with any man, woman or animal shall be punishable with imprisonment for life or with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years and shall also be liable to fine.”

Basically IPC 377 criminalizes any penetrative sex that does not lead to reproduction, thereby criminalizing sexual expression by homosexuals, bisexuals and transsexuals. It becomes a powerful weapon in the hands of police and goondas to harass, abuse, extort and torture sexuality minorities routinely. This law forms the structural basis for the widespread stigma, discrimination, marginalization and prejudice against sexuality minorities in our society. The issue is whether homosexual practices between consenting adults, in private, should be decriminalised by amending the section.

In India, it has a very serious public health dimension relating to HIV/AIDS prevention. If you criminalise any behaviour you increase the chances of it going underground. A change to the law will hopefully change that.

The human rights of homosexuals, as recognised in other jurisdictions, will help the Indian citizen to arrive at an informed judgment and de-stigmatise a significant segment of our population. The American Psychological Association has opined that “despite historical views of homosexuality, it is no longer viewed by mental health professionals as a `disease’ or `disorder’. But obviously, neither it is simply a matter of deliberate personal selection. Homosexual orientation may well form part of the very fibre of an individual’s personality.” And the European Court of Human Rights, while deciding a case from Ireland, noticed that “exclusive homosexuality can be congenital or acquired.” Some are born with long noses, big ears, or blond hair, so it could be with a homosexual.

BCCI has barred contracted players from joining English county teams that have players taking part in the unofficial Indian Cricket League (ICL). Test batsman Vangipurappu Laxman was set to join Nottinghamshire after a three-test series against Sri Lanka, while leg-spinner Piyush Chawla was to sign up with Hampshire. However, both players have been told to avoid teams with links to the ICL.

The Indian board does not recognise the ICL, which is bank-rolled by the owners of India’s largest listed media firm. Last month the Indian board, which organised a domestic Twenty20 competition this year, announced that English county teams will be barred from this year’s multi-million dollar Twenty20 Champions League if they contain players from the ICL.

The loksabha shall decide the fate of confidence motion brought by prime minister manmohan singh tomorrow. I have my fingers crossed. If the government looses the confidence motion, then we shall be looking at another general election. Looking at the fiscal health of the country i hope that situation will not come. On the other hand a win shall allow the PM to go ahead with many reform programmes that were shelved due to left opposition.

The 123 agreement between india and US has become one of the most famous treaties in recent years with the fate of government of india hanging because of it. The 123 agreement between India and USA refers to Sec. 123 of the U.S. Atomic Energy Act. There is a ban on transfer of nuclear technology to other countries under this Act. The Hyde Act was passed by U.S.A to make an exception for India, to enable transfer of technology for civil nuclear energy. The 123 Agreement is the terms of engagement which operationalizes the treaty agreement between india and u.s.a for transfer of civil nuclear technology. The next step is to enter into agreement with the IAEA ( international atomic energy agency) for safegaurds of the civil nuclear reactors to be set up under the 123 agreement and to enter into an agreement with the NSG ( nuclear suppliers group) for supply of nuclear fuel i.e uranium for the civil nuclear reactors. Once India completes the agreements with IAEA and NSG, then the U.S. Congress will vote on the 123 agreement. Once it is approved by the U.S. Congress, then the deal is complete and India and U.S.A can enter into nuclear commerce i.e supply of nuclear reactors, transfer of technology, supply of nuclear fuel etc
