I seem to be a bit late for Busby SEO Challenge but anyways this will be a nice check of how much of SEO, I have learned in the last 3 months.

Today (June 17th 2008) is the day for downloading the much anticipated Firefox 3. Mozilla is targgeting to set the record for most software downloads in 24 hours. I will be downloading my copy. What about you?

Eric did an interview with Matt Cutts. The interview was rather longish. Here is my key takeaways from the interview.

Links that will stand the test of time are links that are typically given voluntarily by someone that’s informed

link baits can stand the test of time as well i.e google does not frown upon link-baits.

original research is a good way to get lots of relevant white-hat backlinks

try to develop relevant link-bait.

Getting links by doing SEM like getting your stories to the homepage of digg is also OK with Google.

Getting links through article syndication is acceptable

reciprocal links are ok, excessive reciprocal links are NOT OK

pagerankquick.com, a website that guarantees a pagerank of 4 within 2 months has a pagerank of 0. I am simply amused.

This newyork times article compares mukesh ambani to mahtma gandhi. The comparison may be a little far fetched. However I recommend this article as it gives a really detailed view into the life of mr ambani and had a highly inspiring effect on me.

ArcelorMittal will be the first listed company to hold an interactive retail shareholders’ meeting on Second Life. This is an attempt by the company to tap a younger generation of investors to broaden its existing base of about 80,000 retail shareholders. Additionally it will also help the company reduce costs associated with holding shareholder meetings in Madrid, Paris, Luxembourg, and Amsterdam, the four places in Europe where its stock is listed.

It is one of the most innovative uses of secondlife. If the move succeeds then we may see more companies move to a similar model.

Advertise your site on classified sites like Craigslist, kijiji, click.in.

Submit your site to DMOZ.Submit to other relevant directories as well. A list can be found here.

Sign up to StumbleUpon and get your friends to Stumble your site. Here are some tips to use StumbleUpon more efficiently.

Find quality and relevant blogs and leave a comment. Importantly it alows you to start the networking with other bloggers as well.

Participate on related forums. Add a link to your site in the signature of any forums you post on. Here is a list of large number of forums.

As of June 30, large PC makers will no longer be able to sell Windows XP-based PCs. Retailers will also have only until their current supply is exhausted. This is a move by microsoft to migrate the reluctant users to Vista. The commercial users can go for vista and then get it dowgraded to xp. Retail customers shall have no such luxury. It will be interestig to see if users will migrate to vista or this will lead to higher piracy.

Microsoft is not ending support for Windows XP though. Extended support is not due to end until April 2014.
