Arun Sarin resigns as vodafone reports record profit
May 27th, 2008 by admin !India-born Arun Sarin will leave Vodafone at the end of July and hand over the reins to deputy chief executive Vittorio Colao. Sarin had gone ahead with a number of mega acquisitions inspite of opposition from the board. His moves have paid off as Vodafone posted a record profit of $13.16bn in the year to March 31,2008. The result was driven by the good performance of the assets acquired in the emerging markets.
Arun Sareen graduated from IIT Kharagpur in 1975. He did his MS in Engineering from University of California, Berkeley and subsequently did his MBA from the same university. He started his professional career in 1978 as an environmental analyst for a Washington, D.C., consulting firm.
n 1995, Arun Sarin joined a newly formed wireless-communications company, AirTouch Communications. In 1999, AirTouch and Vodafone joined hands to create Vodafone-AirTouch. Arun Sarin was made chief executive of the newly formed company. In April 2000, Arun Sarin resigned from Vodafone-AirTouch.
