Opera files antitrust complaint with the EU
December 19th, 2007 by admin !Opera has files an antitrust complaint against Microsoft requesting the Commission to implement two remedies to Microsoft’s abusive actions.
First, it requests the Commission to ask Microsoft to unbundle Internet Explorer from Windows or carry alternative browsers pre-installed on the desktop.
Second, it asks the European Commission to require Microsoft to follow fundamental and open Web standards accepted by the Web-authoring communities.
The first request to unbudle internet explorer from windows is an old one. The case becomes interesting due to the second point. I am eagerly waiting to see if European Commission will indeed direct Microsoft about which standard to follow.
